This year has been an up and down year in terms of comtemporary soundtracks to be honest and there are many that stood out for me that I had a chance to review and many others that will make this list a little later on when I do get a chance. The major beneficiary of a somewhat down year has been the older score releases that received many excellent expansions and first time releases and one in particular that really ranks amongst the best for several reasons because not only is it a great score, it's a great piece of masterful scoring that has or wouldn't be equaled in today's musical environment.
While my list may not please many, but it is a list of what I personally felt were scores that really grabbed my attention and held on real tight till the very end and that's the reason they do make this. I'm gonna dedicate this article to the late Siskel & Ebert since I've pretty much followed their cue in review circles and it was twenty years ago that their show made a strong impression on me on how to debate or argue and even write an objective review right down the middle. Their work is legend and still should be as well as the many fellow journalists who do this for a living so I do it with respect. So here I bring you the Best of 2014!
